Update 1: This issue has been resolved in Activesync 4.2. In case even after installing Activesync 4.2 the problem is not resolved, please follow the below mentioned steps.
A lot of people who have bought Windows Mobile 5.0 devices like the Audiovox PPC 6700 or the Palm Treo 700w face problems synchronizing Activesync 4.1 with Outlook XP/2003. The most common error being Activesync encountered a problem on the desktop support code 85010014. This happens mainly due to problems with Outlook.
To resolve this issue, you may need to follow the steps mentioned below in the order listed:
1) Very Important: Backup your Outlook data
2) If Outlook has the most current information than your PDA, its best to hard reset your device to ensure Outlook data doesn’t get duplicated
3) Uninstall Outlook by going to the Control Panel—>Add/Remove Programs—>Microsoft Office—>Add/Remove Features—>Uncheck Outlook—->Update
4) Delete Partnership from Microsoft Activesync 4.1 by going to File—>Delete Mobile Device
5) Delete Partnership from Microsoft Activesync on Mobile Device by going to Start—>Programs—>Activesync—>Menu—>Options—>Highlight your Windows PC partnership and choose delete
6) Reinstall Outlook by going to Control Panel—>Add/Remove Programs—>Highlight Microsoft Office
—>Add/Remove Features—>Check Outlook—>Also check Advanced Customization of options—>Click on the drop down next to Microsoft Office and choose Run All from my computer—>Click Update
7) Open Outlook to make sure its working fine
8) Repair Microsoft Activesync 4.1 from Add/Remove Programs
9) Restart the computer [Activesync will prompt you to after the repair]
10) Try synching and you should be able to sync
11) In case you still get the same error, disconnect your device from the goto your Control Panel—>Mail—>Show Profiles—>Add Profile and create a new profile for your Outlook
12) Delete Activesync partnership from both the desktop and device
13) Setup a partnership with the new Outlook profile and try synching
You should be good to go. Let me know if you have any questions in comments.

7Groupwise and Outlook cannot coexist on a system as far as I know. Search for and rename mapi32.dll to mapi32.old and run a detect and repair on Outlook.

8I solved the problem temporarily by opening Outlook “Online” vs “Offline” … Active Sync was able to sync just fine. Saves me from re installing and backing up … mybe microsoft will come up with a fix soon

10I used the above when trying to get new Vodafone v1640 PDA (also known as HTC Universal) to sync with Outlook 2002.
Didn’t need to do step 3) uninstall Outlook. Worked perfectly.
Now all I need to do is transfer all email from Mozilla Thunderbird to Outlook (not easy!!) and should finally be able to get everything onto new phone/PDA - it’s only taken about 1 week so far !!

11OK, some help for a novice…must I have the Office CD to reinstall outlook, or will Windows find the files on the HDD?
Abdul Aziz

12Depends. If initiallly, you did not choose to delete Office source cached files, it will not require a CD.

13Dear Abdul: 20.20h031106. I have followed your instructions of 14 February regarding error code 85010014 with absolute precision. I have spent the last week working with level three pda techs at Verizon was foisted off to UTStarcom who thought the problem was a defective phone, Verizon replaced the phone, I have removed all firewalls and anti-virus software, stripped out outlook and AS4.1, rebooted the cpu, reloaded fresh installs from MS-CDs of outlook and AS4.1, I also did all the mentioned stripping of programs and loaded from fresh downloads from MS’s web site and in both cases I get the error code:85010014. I have performed both mentioned actions numerous times. I am temped to offer to the world the invitation to all who suffer from this MS-malady to join in a massive class action law suit vs. MS to pay for all the wasted time and cash value of everyone’s time attempting to deal with this 85010014 problem that they/MS obviously know about and for the temerity they practive of foisting non-usable software upon global practitioners. I’m sure there are thousands of other users who, like me, have spent tens and hundreds of hours attempting to rectify this problem. Your assistance is very welcome. I invite and look forward to your rapid response.
Thanks in advance. Walter of Toner Supply of ISO9001-QUALITY CERTIFIED Printing Supplies. An aside our toner products are ISO 9001-2000 certified, ISO/IEC 19752 compliant, ISO 14001 certified and EU-CE certified. So, I know just a little about manufacturing a quality product. ISO=International Organization for standards, IEC=International ElectroMechanical Commission and CE the European Unions mark of excellence similar to the USA’s UL rating. A PS: I have for three and one half decades been inventing and manufacturing products that are patented and tested globally and are used in extremely sensitive installations of extraordinarily high security and aerospace operations. All of these products have to be tested and certified into absolute compliance within extremely narrow specifications, usually ten thousands of a millimeter and performance tolerances used on spacecraft. If they don’t perform I don’t have a job and my company-no work. So, I’m used to real and accurate performance. That is why I am so amazed at MS’s cavalier attitude of putting out software that thousands of people use and MS’s apparent position of not caring and letting users suffer with MS’s problem, even though the user’s paid for a functional product from MS and it is clearly not performing as promised. Ergo, I hope you may provide a solution. Working with you will be one heck of a lot easier than attempting to foist compliance from MS.
Thanks again, Walter

15Hi Walter,
Sorry for the late response. I would sugegst you do the following:
1) Uninstall any AntiVirus/Firewall software
2) Very Important: Take a backup of your Outlook data
3) Uninstall standalone Outlook or the complete Microsoft Office itself from Add/Remove programs(Make sure you’ve got the Office CD)
4) Uninstall Microsoft Activesync 4.1
5) Open the registry editor(regedit.exe)
6) Delete the following keys from the registry keys:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OfficeCustomizeWizard
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\OfficeCustomizeWizard
7) Goto %temp% from Start–>Run and delete all the contents of the folder
8) Delete the Office folder from Program Files
9) Delete the Outlook folder from C:\Documents and Settings\(userprofile)\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\
10) Delete the MSMAPI folder from C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI
11) Empty the Recycle Bin
12) Restart the computer
13) Reinstall Microsoft Office
14) Reinstall Microsoft Activesync
15) Hard reset the device or atleast delete the partnership on the device from Activesync—>Menu—>Options—>Delete Windows PC
16) Setup a new partnership
17) Don’t import any data yet into Outlook. We will keep the PST clean
18) Try doing a sync with an empty profile
19) If it syncs, disconnect the device and import the data into Outlook
20) Then try to sync. Now if it doesn’t sync there must be some problem with the Outlook data
Disclaimer: If something happens I am not responsible. Make sure you have a backup!!

16Dear Abdul,
Your advice is obviously much sought and well regarded!
My problem is similar to the others but just a bit different.
Active Sync, which I have just installed to cope with my new HP organiser works well with files.
I have also installed Outlook 2002 which I got from the organiser disk. I transferred contacts and the agenda to Outlook from my old Psion organiser using its sync programme, without problem (not done with Active Sync, but with a Psion programme).
I havee then tried to synchronise the contacts and the agenda to transfer data to the HP.
Active sync first stalled with error 8503001f which asks for a different Outlook Profile. Subsequent attempts then stall with 85010014.
I do not know how to install a new profile in Outlook and am not now sure what to do.
Can you help please?

17Deleted Activesync partnership from device and desktop using Steps 4 and 5. In the Control Panel, go to Mail, Show Profiles and click on add to add a new profile with any name. Below there should be an option to Always Use this profile. Choose the profile that you just created. When you open Outlook, you will be in the new profile.

18I have tried all you suggested above and I am still getting the error. Trying to install an Amin X51. I had previously installed PocketPCs with earlier models of the Axim - ActiveSync 3.8 and X30 - and not having as much trouble.
The PocketPC X51 syncs as long as I don’t have it looking at anyhting in Outlook.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

19Dear Abdul
Many thanks for the prompt and helpful reply. The problem was solved using a combination of the methods above. I
- deleted all the profiles from Outlook (in the control panel/mail) and restarted outlook.
- deleted the mobile device from active sync.
- repaired active synch with the control panel/software.
- restarted the PC
and it synchronised!
Now we have to see whether it will still work when I have connected up my Psion and transferred the data from there!
Once again, many thanks

20Abdul,
Your solution worked to perfection on my Axim X51v. I did however make one error in folloiwng your directions and that was not ensuring i had Activesync 4.1. I had 4.0 loaded and got the error after all was done. I re-read your instruction and down loaded 4.1. On the next sync all was well with the world.
Thanks.

22I have a problem that I don’t see here. I can not either install or uninstall ActiveSync. I get a error message telling me that
“The wizzard was interupted bevore ActiveSync 4.1 could be completely installed.
Your system has not been modified. To compleet installation another time, please run installation again.
Click finish to exit the wizard.”
I get this kind of message if I’m trying to install, uninstall, or repair from add/remove programs. Basically, I’m totally stuck. Can’t do anything at all. :(
When I try tp sync my PDA it causes Active sync to crash.
HELP!!!!
How do I remove the install record in Windows XP so that I can install a fresh copy without Windows thinking that one is already partially installed? Basically, I think I’m looking for a “clean install”.
Thanks in advance.

26My SPV C600 with AS4.1 started doing this on a machine that was previous happy with an SPV C500 and AS3.8.
The following from a MS Forum fixed it for me: -
ActiveSync is failing to open the Outlook Object Model. There are typically
two common failures here. The first one is if the MAPI.dll was replaced by
an install of another application. The second is a virus blocking program.
Some Anit-Virus software doesn’t properly clean it’s self after uninstall,
to manually fix this up, please follow the following steps.
a. On the desktop, click Start->Run
b. In the “Run” dialog, type “regedit”
c. This will launch the Windows Registry Editor
d. In the Treeview in the left pane, navigate to the following
registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{0006F03A-0000-0000-C000-00000000?0046}
i. Once you’ve opened the CLSID
note if you type “{0006F03A” it should take you to the right entry
e. Expand the GUID node
f. Click on “InprocServer32″ under the GUID node
g. You will see a value set in the “Data” field of the “(Default)”
h. This value should guide you to what application has installed the
script blocking. For example, Norton AntiVirus puts in an entry like this:
“C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Symantec Shared\\Script
Blocking\\ScrBlock.dll”
i. If the AntiVirus program in question is still
installed, disable Script blocking in that software
j. If the AntiVirus program in question is *not* installed, or the
user cannot figure out how to disable script blocking, delete the entry
i.
Right-click the “(Default)” value name in the right-hand pane
ii. Select
“Delete” from the context menu
iii. This
should leave you with a value “(Default)” where the “Data” is set to “(value
not set)”
k. Press the “Sync” button on the ActiveSync app on the desktop and
it should work now
*Note: I don’t take any responsiblity for you editing your Registry. Take relevant backups etc etc as normal!

27Attn All: Not wanting to chance uninstalling/reinstalling Outlook I spent a few hours reviewing the Microsoft Tech blogs and found this fix. It seems an old version of Norton had a stuck registry key stopping a script from running(I have Norton 2006 that does not allow you to enable scripts to run it seems). I deleted the key value and all worked perfectly. Good luck…

RE:Fix for one problem resulting from “Activesync encountered a problem on the desktop support code 85010014″ Error

28Dear Abdul
I have had other problems since the hang up of Activesync. These are now solved and I share them with you in case they are of some help.
With many thanks
Peter
Two HP-rx1950 problems and “solutions” ? and some reflections
Background: rx1950 bought in January in Singapore and used extensively to back up photos from SD cards, without problems. After return home, used ActiveSync to synchronise for the first time and then experienced problems.
***Problem 1. rx 1950 frequently requires soft reset to start
After posing my own query I was directed to a thread full of these problems and possible solutions. The problem is now solved with a work around.
a. Switch off ActiveSync on the rx1950 ? problem disappears ? but you have to remember to do this each time after synchronisation.
b. Generate a false server (e.g. 1.2.3.4) for ActiveSync and in the follow up menus, set each of the schedules to “manual”. The problem disappears.
**Likely cause: software set by default to a 15min schedule which is invoked even when no server has been specified.
**Discussion threads used: http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=978048
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=1014884
***Problem 2. Error 85010014 occurs on synchronisation with MS Outlook. Via Google and the error number I found that this was a problem for many people and a lot of helpful answers were suggested by “Abdul”.
a. On the PC, Activesync/options to remove all check marks so that nothing is to be synchronised.
b. Disconnect rx1950.
c. In Activesync (on the PC) remove the device.
d. If you have a lot of data in Outlook, back it up!
e. Set up a new Outlook Profile via Control Panel/mail. (Be careful ? it is possible to lose all the data in Outlook WITHOUT warning if you remove the existing profile first)
f. Reconnect and set up synchronisation again.
f. On the PC, Activesync/options restore check marks against things that need synchronising (being pessimistic I did this one at a time).
g. The error should have disappeared.
**Likely cause: MS Outlook appears to require a new profile, the first time a new device is encountered.
**Discussion threads used: http://thinkabdul.com/2006/02/14/activesync-encountered-a-problem-on-the-desktop-support-code-85010014/
***Other problems.
*SD Card. I have had no troubles with SD cards (used extensively for two months before first synchronisation problem appeared).
*Battery run down. There were certainly some sharp falls overnight before problem 1 was sorted out, which seem now to be reduced. Generally disappointed with battery performance in comparison with my earlier PDA.
*** Reflections
a. The lack of response by HP to many people on the threads is disappointing, particularly after work arounds were found. If these were simply tested and then given out, it would suffice until HP/MS has sorted the problem out.
b. I have just changed from an eight year old PDA (Psion 5) and it is sad to see that some software features are still inferior to that. For example:
i weekly diary view in the Calendar (have bought software for this)
ii. a once only alarm for waking up (have bought software for this)
iii. A world map which allowed one to set up time zones with the stylus (nothing equivalent)
iv. A scientific calculator as well as a simple one ( can buy software for this)
v. An internal programming language (nothing erquivalent)
Perhaps PDA developers should try the real world to see how users use their devices instead of simply trying to guess!
Finally I am actually looking forward to using it since it seems a nice little thing.

33Deal all - what an awesome thread. My SP5 was working perfectly, then I upgraded to NIS 2006. Uh oh, now ActiveSync reports the dreaded 85010014 error. Deleted partnerships, fixed and rapired Outlook, uninstalled re-installed AS 4.1, uninstalled NIS2006 and reinstalled NIS2005, still NBG. Googled this thread and decided to try Allan’s reg hack. Bingo! I figured that NIS was the culprit, and it had to be blocking the Outlook scripts - pity NIS2006 doesn’t seem to expose how one stops it from blocking scripts! I just deleted the reg key, pressed Sync, and all is good.
Thanks to everyone for contributing.

44It’s been a few weeks since any postings but I’m new here with some minor inputs that made this work for me. Maybe the problem has gone away for everyone but me.
Anyway, as my disclaimer: I know enough about software to get me in trouble and usually not enough to get me out, so keep that in mind.
Environment: Windows XP, Verizon XV6700 Pocket PC, Activesync 4.1, Norton Internet Security 2006
PocketPC synched great with Outlook while using Norton Personal firewall 2004. Updated my subscription to Norton and “upgraded” to Norton Internet Security 2006 - started getting the dreaded 85010014. On the web with Norton to try to fix it (did the rules for allowing Activesync) deleted the Pocket PC and retried, no luck. Gave up for a while since I had most of the contacts in there I wanted and was tired of screwing with it so gave up and lived with a non-synching Pocket PC. Got a new Pocket PC as the front glass cracked so had to get contacts in again and fortunately found this thread. Did everything in the process and still no luck until I turned off Norton, then, worked just fine. Even with the program elements of activesync specifically allowed in the Norton rules, I still have to turn off Norton (which I’m not thrilled about) to sync. Kind of a manual work around but not too bad for a computer near-illiterate. I have an e-mail in to Norton to see if they’ll try to resolve the conflict with their “latest and greatest” software.
Molds- My registry didn’t have the CLSID so I couldn’t go that route.
Abdul (and all other contributors) - Thank you very much for being the solution that Norton couldn’t be.

47Post #27 worked for me as well. The error occurred after I upgraded from an OEM installed Norton Internet Security 2005 to store bought NIS 2006. The 06 version must have not deleted all the previous info. Thanks!

48Molds thanks your solution worked for me. I have several of the 6700 I support and only recently came across this problem after doing a rom update on one of them. I tired all the above steps and none worked. I think a class action suit against MS would be well warranted i this case. Myself along with several other MSCE took hours and hours to try to fix this problem. Even if the solution was to have to uninstall and reinstall outlook or office - that still takes an hour or more. Who pays for that wasted lost time?
The solution to mine was easy.
When I checked the registry the data field was set to “blank”. I clear it and it worked immediatly.

49Hi Abdul,
You just started a really great discussion/forum
on the active sync 85010014 which until now I still
have. I have searched and tried all suggestions but
still have that issues. I will try some of the suggestions by users here again especially with
the registry and hidden anti virus setting.
Until then I hope everyone a fruitful solution when
it comes to this horrible 85010014 error.
Very disappointed with MS active sync team !!!

54I have an X51v and down loaded 4.2. My PC OS is WinXP Svc Pk 2. I tried uninstalling and installing Outlook 2003, disabling scipt in NIS, etc. But still encountered 85010014. I do agree with Judy that the problem is still not fixed.

55Excellent guide.
I can also verify that they STILL haven’t fixed this bug. And it’s not an activesync bug, folks, it’s a problem with various pieces that interact with office. Notice that activesync works fine it’s just when trying to synch your outlook that it hangs up. It’s typically caused, as posted above, by antivirus software.
I just fixed this problem myself using the hack to kill script blocking (and no, NIS 2006 doesn’t have a means in the program to disable it so you HAVE to nuke the registry key).

56Great list of technical troubleshooting details.
I purchased an HP rx1955 with Windows Mobile 5.0 to replace an HP h1910 (cracked screen.) Kept receiving the 85010014 status message at work (no issues on home PC.) After working with my IT group at work following all the above steps except registry hacks and antivirus mods, still no luck.
Frustrated, but believing sync should still be possible, I tried once more those elements under my control. Ultimately, creating a new mail profile in Outlook concurrent with elimination of all ActiveSync profiles on the PDA and PC resolved the issue. Fortunately uninstall/reinstall of Outlook, ActiveSync, and new mail profile creation resulted in minimal mess to clean up.
Thanks to all!

57Hey Great guide. I have tried everything on your list, but I still can’t get it to work. I have a Qtek 9000, and run the groupwise mail box in Outlook. I have tried all the tips in your guide including renaming mapi32.dll til .old.
I am now on the brink of destroying the PocketPC. Do you have a suggestion? Or is it simply impossibe to run Activesync, Outlook and Groupwise together?

2 Days without email and all I had to do is hard reset the device like you mentioned.
The certificate wasn’t trusted so I copied on my device a root certificate from Geotrust and it works like a charm now.

61It?s going to be a long message, but I would like to have as much info as posible.
It stills not working for me…………..argh
I have 2 domains (domain A and domain B) Both runs on WinServer 2003 with Exchange 2003 SP2. We run WinXP SP2 (all fully patched etc) and we have new HTC TyTN with Windows Mobile 5.0 cell phones.
I have installed MS Certifications service myself, and issued a certification on IIS so that I could run SSL.
On both domains we can run Outlook over RPC/HTTP.
On domain A, I have manage to get ActiveSync (AS) to sync up to the Exchange server, and get the fully function of Direct Push.
On domain B I cant get AS to work. I have no problem to sync with my computer.
When I establish an partnership with my AC and Exchange, fill in the appropriate configuration like server dress (mail.domainB.com) with SSL, username and password etc. I get an error code ?ActiveSync encounter a problem on the server. Support Code: 85010014?.
I have gone through my configuration on my working Exchange (Domain A) with the none working (Domain B) and I can?t see any different on them. The DNS is ?the same?, System Manager on Exchange is the same, and the IIS is ?the same?.
I have a suspicion that it could be something with my certificate, but am not sure. My Outlook works fine over RPC/HTTP over SSL, also OWA (https://mail.domainb.com/exchange) works fine, but not ActiveSync.
Support Code: 85010014 have been resolved in Activesync 4.2, so MS say. But I?ll still get it.
Is there any one out there that could help med with this one?
And have a good ?How-To? on ActiveSync/Exchange 2003 implementing.
Thanx in advanced.

62Hello,
I am a computer tech for a school district. I am getting this error on my assistant principal’s iPAQ. I am using AciveSync 4.2, Intellisync 5.5. Outlook is not installed as we use Novell’s Groupwise. It does appear that the iPAQ is syncing but the error keeps popping up. We also use Symantec Enterprise Antiviurs edition 10.0. 02.

65Hi there,
After stumbling onto this information, I decided to do the easiest thing first which was to run a repair of ActiveSync. This repaired the issues regarding error 85010014.
Not sure if it will do it for everyone.
Running Default outlook taken from autoinstall of the ActiveSync cd. Running ActiveSync 4.1.0 (build 4841).
Win XP Pro fully updated. Oh… and I’m also running Microsoft’s “Live Care” for firewall/A.V./ etc.

68I figured out that the activesync support code 85010014 was happening because I was trying to sync an iPaq that already had data on it and the program was timing out trying to update the information.
Solution: I did a hard reset of the iPaq and deleted all partnerships in Activesync. This solved the problem.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the newest version of ActiveSync and still

will solve the error. If any one has a suggestion, please let me know.

72I have Activesync 4.5 installed running Outlook 2003 through exchange and I get the same error. I don’t syncronize email and my contacts, calendar, etc. all seem to syncronize properly so I can ignore it. Unfortunately the affected system is a corporate laptop and I would have to send it off to have all that work done which I can’t do because of the long downtime so I live with the error until M$ comes out with a real fix.

73Hi Folks
I used AS4.2 on my previous laptop to sync my HTC P4350, everything OK.
Now I have a new laptop on which I installed the latest AS 4.5. Then I plugged my HTC without changing anything first, it started to sync and ended with this error: support code 85010014.
Removed the AS partnership on both the laptop and the smartphone, plugged it in again and it sync’ed without a trouble. Suppose my device was puzzled having to sync with another laptop AND another version of AS?
Anyway, thanks for all the insights.

Should I install the newest version of Active Synch or should I try to use the built in Vista Application. .. Moreover .. will the built in Vista App acctually synch??

82Microsoft sucks - why can’t they get their own applications to freaking work with each other? I am using XP and Moto Q - but why should I have to jump through so many hoops for this crap software? After wasting a couple of days, I am now using PocketMirror and Agenda One on the Q - they are well worth the money, as they actually work out of the box as they should.

83I have to say this F***ing pda was the worst investment. I previously had an HP IPAQ 2210 and it worked great, had it for years without any problems other than my requirements outgrew its abilities. So I though I’ll upgrade to a newer unit with better memory, yadda, yadda, yadda. Unfortunately this thing has not worked properly from day one. I spent 7 hours on the phone with HP support trying to fix the myriad of bugs, (initially HP said they don’t support the software and to phone Microsoft [to which I was told by Microsoft to phone the manufacturer - HP] but they agreed to help after I complained strongly), for which this is one. I also suffer from the unit locking up and the battery draining issue. And all that with the latest bios which HP insisted would fix the problem of course it meant I had to reinstall everything and all I got was the unit went from locking up 2 – 3 times per day to 2 – 3 times per week. Out of 3 computers 1 will sync and on that one only some of the time. I love the pocketPC they are just so useful, but thanks to Mobile5.0 and Microsoft I’m actually considering Palm or Blackberry; I’m just so tired of always having to fight to get this thing to work and neither Microsoft or HP want to support it - so what other choice do I have? And on top of all the problems half the software I had on my 2210 won’t run on Mobile 5.0! I hope that this message serves to help others who might be deciding between the different brands – don’t buy HP and definitely nothing with Mobile5.0 on it! On a final note, as if to rub salt in an open wound Future Shop will not take back the device because “technically” there is nothing wrong with it?!? So I’m out 500 bucks and I have a great paper-weight… … …but I’m not bitter?

85Here’s what finally worked for me with my Ipaq: After following Abdul’s very helpful suggestions (three times), disabling scripting in my AV program, tweaking my firewall, but still getting the annoying Micro$oft error message, and after pulling out all of my hair (well, eyebrows, at least) I:
1) Deleted the partnerships (on Ipaq and in ActiveSync) & rebooted
2) Uninstalled Activesync 4.1 & rebooted
3) Uninstalled Outlook 2003 & rebooted
4) Clean install of Activesync 4.2 (downloaded from MS site, short URL http://www.shortenurl.com/8qicl ) & rebooted (note: upgrading to 4.2 and installing it over 4.1 did not work for me)
5) Reinstalled Outlook 2003 & rebooted
6) Opened Outlook, set to “Work Offline” and set up e-mail account, etc.
7) Attached cradle to USB, put Ipaq in cradle, opened Activesync, set up partnership, and synched, and it finally worked.
I wasted a good eight hours trying to get products made by the same manufacturer (M$) and designed by that same manufacturer (M$) to work together to do just that. Unbelievable. Thank you Abdul, for this great site, and good luck to everyone else out there!

86I’ve spent 10s of hours trying to resolve my T-Mobile Vario II (WM V5.0), AS4.5, XP Prof and Outlook 2007. ActiveSync worked a treat with my new Dell Laptop. When the 30 day trial of McAffe Internet Security expired I unistalled the McAfee software and loaded AVG 7.5 Internet Security. This is when my ActiveSync connection probelem started.
I tried all the usual uninstall/reinstall of AS, deleting connection settings, read loads of posts, even ventured into the Windows Registry Editor, AVG support are also working on it for me. Then just stumbled on the following:
http://www.pocketpcjunkies.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/pocket-pc-activesync/6996/activesync-never-connects
4 clicks and simply unchecking “Enable advanced network functionality” in Settings > USB to PC, has, like a miracle changed my world back to normality.
The prospect of unistalling Outlook and reinstalling filled me with dread but I’d got as far as researching it.
So - It worked for me - try it.
Good luck

87Thanks everyone, I was getting that 85010014. I tried everything short of pulling out my hair. The ONLY thing that worked for me was, backing up outlook database, uninstalling outlook, uninstallilng active sync, then reinstalling outlook and reinstalling activesync, reestablish a sync and it worked perfectly. Note that when you reinstall outlook, it will fiind your original database and no information will be lost (unless your database was pretty screwed up.)
There you have it, now go wipe outlook & activesync off your computer and reinstall it!

91Where do I start? I used to have an XV6700, which synched to my computer through Microsoft Activesync 4.2. No problems. I then purchased the XV6800, which required me to upgrade my Activesync to 4.5. That’s when the problems started. I was able to download the program, but when it came time to set up, I receive this error message: “”Error. Could not open key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personel. ” I’ve never seen that message before. I then preceeded to uninstall anything having to do with Activesync, and I receive the same message. I can’t access the 4.2 now either. Same message. Any suggestions? I’m stuck.

98I was having the same issue when I attempted to change my synchronization from using my exchange server to using my office PC due to some contacts not getting pulled in. (Error Code 1).
I found a thread that shows how to fix that error, which may allow some people here to get around the current problem.
If that is the case, this other thread had the following instructions that seemed to work. Since this is playing with the registry, take it under advisement and make sure you have a backup made in case the registry troll gets you.
Start>Run
Enter the following command:
Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\Ole32.dll
If you get a successful update command, re-associate your contacts and re-sync. It worked for me and now I don’t have any gaps in my contacts.
Good Luck!

99I have been syncing just fine (Palm Treo 700w and Outlook 2003). I am changing computers and trying to move my email over to the new computer via the phone. (Because the stupid thing will NOT let me reinstall the archive file) It syncs everything else just fine, but when I tried to move the mail, I got it off the old system just fine, but is telling me it will remove all mail from either the phone or the computer when I try to bring the old mail to the new machine. I guess I should state that the “new” machine is really my old machine that was in the shop for an extended period of time, so I need the data there too. Any ideas on how to get the email off the phone and into Outlook without losing any messages?

100Hi,
Suddenly the irritating supportcode 85010014 is popping up on my laptop.
I use a Dell Axim X51v, ActiceSync 4.5, and connects to an Exchange Server.
And whenever I connect to Exchange using BlueTooth and my mobile phone, synchronization fails.
The problem is therefor not on the laptop.
There’s been no changes in our network/Exchange setup.
I have made a hard reset on the Axim-PDA, but the problem is still there.
Any suggestions?!
Thanks in advance.

101We have found that getting rid of our PDAs is the solution! My suspicion is that (especially if you have recurring appointments and change several of them) it confuses Exchange and requires too many resources. We ditched our iPaqs and got the new Samsung i760 Smart Phones. They work with Activesync flawlessly.
