Skype had recently introduced an Intel only feature in its latest Skype software allowing 10-way conference calls for Intel only platforms. They said that only Intel’s dual core hardware could support this feature. AMD had even subpeon’d Skpye over this last week. It turns out that the Skype-Intel exclusive feature was just a marketing ploy. Maxxuss, a well known enthusiast from MacOSX86 project has cracked a code and put up a patch on his website for AMD and other processors.
The “protection” was actually a string in code that checks for “GenuineIntel” string inside the CPU. If Intel dual core is detected, 10-way works. If string returns something else, like “AuthenticAMD”, only 5 conference calls.

What Intel is doing nowadays aggravates my feeling for Intel : INTEL SUCKS!!

CNet already is reporting that the market positions of both Intel and AMD have inversed:
In the first seven weeks of 2006, AMD’s share in desktops in that area climbed to 81.5 percent, while Intel’s has slid to 18.5 percent.
