To save YouTube videos on your computer, try the following steps:
1) Go to C:\Program Files\Opera\profile\cache4 on the computer
2) Delete all the files in the folder (to make things easier)
3) Open Opera and go to YouTube
4) View the video in Opera
5) After the streaming has completed, go back to the Opera cache folder at C:\Program Files\Opera\profile\cache4. Note: Do not close the tab in which you viewed the YouTube video.
6) There should be a large tmp file in the folder
7) Copy and paste it to your desktop
8) Rename the extension to .flv
9) Download the free FLV Player from download.com
10) You can now play that flv file with the FLV Player
Let me know if you have any question.

1Unfortunately I still cannot open it as the .tmp is still attached eg sample.flv.tmp.
How can I strip the .tmp?
Thanks.

2Open Windows Explorer. Go to Tools—>Folder Options—>View—>Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types—>Apply—>Ok.
Now try renaming the file to sample.flv

5works the same with IE, but the tmp files will not copy. but all you got to do is backup and restore. thats not that hard with a script.
