I will be writing a series on Activesync 4 connectivity issue starting today. First in this series is Activesync 4.1 which does not detect the Windows Mobile 5.0 / Pocket PC device. I’ve seen that Verizon Access Manager blocks the connection between Activesync and the device. You will notice that the Windows Device manager will detect the Pocket PC but Activesync will not connect even though “Allow USB connections” is selected in Activesync—>File—>Connection Settings.
To resolve this, open msconfig from Start—>Run. Go to the Startup Tab and uncheck Verizon Access Manager. Go to the Services tab look for the Venturi Client service and uncheck it. Restart the computer. Connect the device after the computer is loaded up and Activesync should be able to recognize the device. Disabling Verizon Access Manager from startup doesn’t mean you can’t use it to connect to the internet. After Activesync connects successfully, you can go to Start—>All Programs and open the Verizon Access Manager to connect. You can keep it running untill the computer is rebooted.
