If you are facing trouble sending or recieving emails using GMail over SSL, try using the following incoming and outgoing email servers:

Incoming POP3 Server: pop.googlemail.com
Outgoing SMTP server: smtp.googlemail.com

Sometimes you might need to use the outgoing SMTP server of your mobile carrier like Verizon, Sprint or Cingular.
