In a direct competition to Skype, ROK, a British company is planning to launch a free VOIP client for mobile phones on September 8. Initially the software would be available for the Symbian platform (S60 and UIQ) and later a Java J2ME version as well as a Windows Mobile 5.0 version of the software would be made available. The software would connect via Bluetooth to any Bluetooth capable PC and make free calls. And it will not work with any other SIP/VOIP/Skype client. The recipient too would need to have a mobile/PC with the same ROK software installed.
