Host Yourself is a free service/software for your desktop computer that allows you to share documents, and any other files, folders, or drives on your desktop computer/laptop to the internet over a 128 bit SSL connection. You can then use Internet Explorer, Firefox or even a mobile phone browser to remotely access files from your PC and access and download documents and files.

They provide a small Jave based client called MyDiskServer that helps configure your computer for sharing files, folders and drives online. It manages all network traffic between users and the host yourself network.
