		<description>I've always used Truecrypt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truecrypt).  You can encrypt certain folders, or whole partitions.  Also, a dowble layer (decrypt once and you see a dummy file, have to decrypt again for real files) of protection is included.  Plus the added benefit of being an open source project.  As for a password before boot, many computers can set a bios password, which works nicely, without added software.
