Instango is a new freeware J2ME MIDP 2.0 Jabber instant messaging client for Java capable mobile devices which can connect to any Jabber server via GPRS, 3G or WLAN.
Some of the features are:
-Automatically tries to reconnect after disconnection
-Uses a proxy server to save bandwidth
-allows for beeps/vibrations/LED flashing (Nokia E61)
One can use of one the many public Jabber servers available at http://www.jabber.org/user/publicservers.shtml for AIM, ICQ, MSN, IRC,Yahoo!, File Transfer proxy, etc. And even use Google Talk which runs on the Jabber service.
To use an IM service like AIM, MSN, ICQ or Yahoo!, you need a desktop Jabber client like PSI (http://www.psi-im.org/). Download and install PSI on your computer. Open PSI and go online using your Jabber.instango.com or any other Jabber service account. In the main menu, select ‘Service Discovery’. You will be presented with a list of available transports on that Jabber service like ICQ, AIM, Yahoo! or MSN. Right click on the one that you want and click Register. Repeat the same for every IM service you want to add. Now you can sign in with the same account from your mobile Jabber client.
