Note: This is a paid review of ReviewMe
ReviewMe is a new web service for Bloggers that pays you to write reviews about specific products and services similar to Payperpost which was launched sometime ago and drew a lot of criticism. This service is backed by Text Link Ads, an established service that allows advertisers to purchase text link ads on your blog/website for a fixed amount and time frame.
The sign up process is fairly quick and easy. Once you setup a new account you can register up to six blogs from which you can publish your reviews. A highly popular blog gets accepted almost immediately (atleast mine did).
Each blog added to their network is ranked based on certain criteria such as your blog’s Alexa ranking, Technorati ranking/links and estimated number of RSS feed readers. Based on that they set the price for your review, 50% of which goes to ReviewMe. This is different from Payperpost where everyone is paid a single fee regardless of the blog size, credibility, etc
Another major difference between ReviewMe and Payperpost (and which makes ReviewMe less criticized) is that their Terms of Service require you to disclose that you are writing a paid review. And also the advertisers cannot always require a positive review. So the end consumers get a genuine feedback for a product or service that they intend to purchase.
From their FAQ:
1) We do not allow advertisers to require a positive review. The vast majority of reviews are measuredly positive, although many do contain constructive criticism. We view this as a bonus: how else can you quickly and cheaply get feedback on a product or service from influencers?
2) We do require that all reviews are at least 200 words long, and that the review post is disclosed as being sponsored in some fashion.
Currently, ReviewMe is utilizing its own network to promote the new service and pay bloggers for a review with a budget of about $25,000. This will give an idea of how the service actually works. A quick search on Technorati shows the popularity ReviewMe is already getting.
