Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 includes a new cool feature called Autodiscover. The Autodiscover service provides Outlook 2007 users and compatible Windows Mobile devices with the profile settings that are required to connect to the Exchange server including:
The user?s display name
Separate connection settings for internal and external connectivity
The location of the user?s Mailbox server
The URLs for various Outlook features that govern such functionality as free/busy information, Unified Messaging, and the offline address book
Outlook Anywhere server settings
The Autodiscover Web service that is running on the Exchange 2007 Client Access server returns an .xml file that contains configuration information, which is interpreted by the Outlook 2007 and compatible Windows Mobile devices.
If the user is moved to a different server later, the client will automatically query the Autodiscover Web service again to update the client configuration.
