Thanks so much. I'm hooked in now with your help. I'm running a iMac OS 10.5.7 and a HP with Windows Vista Home Premium. Before coming here I spent a lot of time with Apple Techs (they did actually help), and the buffoons at HP. The buffoons had me going in circles. After chatting online with them they referred me to "Smart Friend" with a $59.99 charge. Frustratingly i paid that and then got to talk to a technician that told me i had to talk to a "level 2" technician. After trying to get hold of a level 2 technician, they told me it would be a 4 to 5 hour wait. Close to blowing my top, i asked for a refund and came here. After reading this post it took me approximately 2 mins to complete the network. Thanks again.

Your suggestion worked to enable connections both ways. However, I am unable to print from my Mac to the HP PSC 750 printer connected to the Vista box. Using the Mac add printer utiltiy, it sees the Vista box, but when Windows Printer Sharing is selected it will not show me the printer. I know the printer is set as a network printer as I am able to print to it form an XP printer on the network.

I have disabled Norton Security, and have Windows firewall settings to allow Private Prnter and File sharing.

I even tried installing Bonjour and Bonjour is not seeing the printer. Any help is most appreciated.

My mac can see the Vista PC and using the ip address/username I can see and connect FROM the C to the MAC. What I cannot do is connect sucessfully from the MAc to the PC. when I use the "Go > Connect to Server > and then type in the IP address of the PC, It gives me the login promt: fills in the MSHOME and my username (which is my username on the PC as well), but Whne I try and connect, it says username or password is incorrect. I did not set a Password on the PC. I even added a new account with administrator priv. and no poassword, but the mac cannot connect to that either.
I have changed the LSa level to 1 as recommended in other forums. Still cannot sucessfully log into my PC from my mac. This was never a problem with XP on my PC. any help would be greatly appreciated!

Since Vista Home Basic does not have gpedit or secpol, what can I do?

"1. Goto Start—>Run and open gpedit.msc or secpol.msc (Only for Windows Vista Ultimate/Business/Enterprise Versions)"

Using your tips, I was able to connect from my vista home premium PC to my Mac (10.4.10). However, I can only see the home folder on the Mac, not the whole computer. Is there a way to see my entire HD? Mac to Mac we can see everything.

Also, I cannot connect to the PC from the Mac. The alial to the PC shows in my network window, but when I click connect, I get a message that the connection failed. I get the following message:

"The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again"

Is there something else I need to set in order to connect in this direction? I have all the sharing settings turned on in the PC control panel/network and sharing center/sharing and discovery.

Running IMac 10.3.9 and Vista Home Premium. The only obstacle from Mac to PC was firewall related. I don't know your firewall setup. My problems were with Norton. You will need to experiment with these settings. Please let me know how it goes.

I have finally got the communication from PC to Mac to work with a version of your tip - my question is this - How do I get communication the other way from Mac to PC? (Running OS 10.4.10 on iMac and Vista Home Premium on PC)

Your regedit tip worked perfectly for my Vista Home Premium. After many hours of frustration, I can now access files on the MAC seamlessly. Thanks a million!
