There is good news for Windows Mobile users. Windows Mobile 6.0 will introduce a new utility called Certificate Installer (CertInstaller.exe) that will allow you to install unsigned and wildcard certificates onto the mobile device. While earlier versions of Windows Mobile 2003 and 5.0 supported installing only CER certificates, the new Certificate Installer can install certificates in the P7B and PFX formats. You will also be able to install Wildcard certificates like *.microsoft.com which wasn’t supported earlier either.

Here are some of the new certificate related features introduced in Windows Mobile 6.0:

-Certificate Installer built into the OS
-Installs CER, P7B, and PFX files
-Installs Unsigned certificates- No more Access Denied messages and need for 3rd party carrier specific certificate installers
-Installs certificates to the Root, Intermediate, and MY store
-Wildcard Certificate support for SSL
-More root certs installed by default
-Delete will work from the control panel on any user-installed certs
-Intermediate (”CA”) store shows up in the control panel
