Windows Vista Boot Logo Generator is a Beta application that lets you create high resolution boot screen logos for Windows Vista.
To create and change the logo of your Windows Vista computer, proceed with the following:
1) Download and install the Boot Logo Generator application here
2) The photo, picture or wallpaper that you want to use as the bootscreen must be a 24-bit BMP file and in two sizes- 800×600 and 1024×768 (the 800×600 version maybe used by Vista in case of problems with the display drivers). Drag and drop both the 800×600 and 1024×768 BMP files onto the application’s window and save those files onto your desktop. The files would be saved as winload.exe.mui.
Note: You might need to run the application “As Administrator” (Right-click -> Run as Administrator” if it gives you any error while generating the bootscreens.
3) Browse to C:\windows\system32\en-US. Goto the properties of the file “winload.exe.mui” and take full control so you can move it or replace it.
You can do this by going to the File’s Properies—>Security tab—>Choose “Advanced”––>Select the “Owner” tab, Add your account/username—>Click Ok—>Go to Permissions, click “Edit”, select all including special permissions.
Or open command line using Run As Administrator and type:
takeown /f C:\Windows\System32\en-US\winload.exe.mui and then
cacls C:\Windows\System32\en-US\winload.exe.mui /G username:F
4) Replace your custom winload.exe.mui that you saved earlier into the C:\Windows\System32\en-US\ and select the Overwrite option
5) Open msconfig, goto the Boot tab and select no GUI boot option
