Russell Beattie has launched a new online mobile service called Mowser. You can transcode any website on the fly to a mobilized version simply by prepending http://mowser.com/web? to the site’s URL. The transcoded version not only looks as authentic as the original desktop version but also decreases the loading time by reducing the size of the graphics/fonts/images. In my testing, Flickr hardly took les than 15-20 seconds to load along with pictures.

For example, you can visit a graphics intensive website such Flickr by typing http://mowser.com/web?url=http://flickr.com in your mobile browser or by going to the homepage of Mowser and entering the URL in the search box.

From the site,
Mowser takes HTML pages normally viewed on a computer and translates them so that you can see them when you’re on the go. During this translation process, Mowser analyzes the original HTML code using sophisticated algorithms. In order to ensure that the highest quality and most useful web page is displayed on your mobile phone or device, Mowser may alter images, text formatting and/or certain aspects of web page functionality.

If a website includes its own mobile css template (like My Opera), then it is displayed without translating. Then are keywords which you can type along with the query that will take you to the desired service dircetly. For example, eb desktop computer will take you to eBay’s Listing page for desktop computers category.

Another interesting feature is that you can specify a meta-tag header with your AdMob advertisement code in your website/blog’s header. So when a visitor translates the website from Mowser, relevant Ads using your AdMob code are displayed allowing you to earn some revenue.
