Nokia N95 provides an option to automatically check and retrieve email from a POP3 or IMAP4 email account (pull email) at regular, user specified intervals. This is different from Push Email wherein the server pushes new email to the mobile device.
Open the Messaging application, goto “Options”—>”Settings”—>”E-mail”—>”Mailboxes” Select the email account you wish to change.
Scroll down to “Automatic retrieval”
Here you will find two options:
E-mail notifications—To automatically retrieve the headings to your device when you receive new e-mail in your remote mailbox, select “Auto-update” or Only in home network
E-mail retrieval—To automatically retrieve the headings of new e-mail messages from your remote mailbox at
defined times, select Enabled or Only in home network

2I think that this only works if you’re using an email account supported by your phone service provider. For example, I set up two IMAP accounts one with Gmail and one with Vodafone’s MyMail service. The MyMail one comes with “free email notification” if you pay for a data package. Mymail notifies me of new mail, the gmail one only tells me when I connect.
