Here are a couple of codes to soft/hard reset/format a Nokia N95 mobile device:
Soft reset code *#7370#
Hard reset code *#7780#
If the hard format code mentioned aboive does not work, try the following manual method to hard reset/format Nokia N95:
+ Turn off the mobile device.
+ Press and Hold the following three buttons: the green Call Answer button, the “*” button, and the number “3″ button.
+ While holding these buttons, turn on the phone and keep holding the keys untill the mobile phone restarts and prompts you to enter details.

1Thank you for the second method of doing a hard reset on this phone (the *#7780# did not work for my phone). It finally fixed the problem I was having. Even O2 Customer Services failed to suggest a way to ‘hard reset’ my phone… they insist the only way to fix things is for me to post the phone in. No need for that now. Thanks!

12For David: Since your telephone is brand new the booklet has the factory lock code as being 12345,; at least for the one that I bought in the USA.

13I think you’ll find that you’ve got the hard and soft reset codes SWAPPED. i.e. the one for “hard” is the soft reset, and the one for “soft” is the hard reset.
Rgds,
Dave.

14The second option is totally what I was looking for, I thought I bricked the freakin phone…. but with the green dial + 3 key + “*” key, turn the device on and keep the keys pressed until the phone boots (which is in a couple of split seconds, instead of the normal 15 seconds orso).
THANK YOU!

17I bricked my phone during v20 upgrade. The PC application went to recovery, but turning off / removing the battery did not work. I then tried the 3 finger salute and that did not seem to work as the N95 just stayed on the Nokia logo. I tried the 3 keys thing several times - still no joy. I then retried the PC application recovery and VIOLA! the upgrade completed successfully. Thanks to all!

February 7th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
323 keys combo is proven to work on n95, n95 8gig and n82
b4 formatting ur phone back up all necessary files, contacts etc then format ur mmc first after this turn off phone take out simcard and mmc, now put back battery and battery cover then press and hold call key(green key)+asterisk(*)+def key(3) while holding this 3 keys turn the phone ON hold until it shows ENTER LOCK CODE usually its 12345 by default (unless u changed it, so put on there ur code) after u entered the necessary codes it will promt u for the time country date etc. wen u complete this the settings wizard will appear and will ask u if u want settings for the phone( in this stage of the process u already know u got a fresh phone already)
this method fix errors like unecessary reboots and file corruption, if in some cases u still get reboot then its a firmware bug and u need to update ur phone fw.
i do this every ones and a while and my phones nvr been this fast LOL

February 8th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
34did u hold the 3 keys and didnt let go till go push the ON button?
this is the most effective thing to do for formatting phone memory. just take out simcard and mmc b4 doin so

35Karl I have the same problem and already changed the battery. What are the EXACT steps?
karl
February 10th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
36ok first format mmc then take out sim and mmc, after this turn off phone HOLD CALL KEY(GREEN)+*+3 ALL TOGETHER DON NOT LET GO THEN SWITCH POWER TO ON and it will ask u your phone lock code, enter it, u can now let go of the the keys uve press, when u see option choose ur country, time date then ur phone memory is formated or in other words “ITS DONE”..

37Damnit - it all worked so fine, re flashed, then started update, but as the update was ending it asked me to remove battery and pop it back in, but it now says the phone isnt detectable and I have an useless brick with a Nokia logo on white only.
Have seen the ‘recovery’ screen when I run updater again after a re-boot, but as usual it doesnt detect the phone when it tries to carry on the update. 3 finger reset doesnt work (SIM & MMC out), have re-booted PC and re-installed updater; the updater (or was it PC Suite?) even ‘repaired’ itself once or twice. No luck though - have a dead phone… There is some form of an USB connection happening - the PC ‘ding dongs’ when I put the battery back in…
Any suggestions as to what I could try guys as I’m 4 hrs in and have killed my phone :-(
Thx

38wat u mean by reflashed? did u flash ur phones fw? why did u reflashed it? the 3 key combo and other codes cant brick ur phone, ur phones os is in rom only and cant be modified by user, or u did the 3 keys combo and it worked then u update and this cause u problems? thats y i dont update my phone sumtimes this updates can give problems i usually let the nokia ppl do it for me, ive read alot of articles regarding phone update that may brick phone.. sorry mate i cant help u with that, u should reflashed ur phone to the latest update so u wont update it and brick ur phone again.

86Hey im going crazy trying to work this out. The hard reset doesnt work because it continues to say ‘end all active calls and connections first’ I’ve downloaded new software which has wiped the phone, but the only result was that it went back to the original number(my old number) i requested instead of the number i’ve had the complete time with 3. Ive searched the internet for hours on end and can’t find answer. I would be so grateful to anyone who could assist me.

92Hi!!!! It worked!!! uhuuuu
I have a N95 8G, so i tried all the possibilities!
I was with apps that didn´t appear in my phone, but when i syncronized with the Nokia Downloads app, it was still there! I was almost giving up, but i found this page!! Amazing!!
The apps that i couldn´t remove were GMAIL and OPERA MINI.
Here are my steps:
1 - Mass Memory Format
2 - Hard Reset
3 - TURN THE PHONE OFF
3 - Take out the SIM card
4 - First try - 3 button keys (green call key + * + 3 + TURN THE PHONE ON) - It didn´t appear the country region configuration
5 - Second try - 3 button keys (green call key + * + 3 + TURN THE PHONE ON) - Now it appeared the country region configuration.
Awesome!!
I hope it works 4 u!

102Hey Guys
Here’s the thing. My N95 (8GB) crashed during the latest updater. The phone actually turned off. I turned on the phone. The lights came on but it would not boot. NOT even to the Nokia logo screen. I left the phone and, and no word of a lie as if by magic the phone booted. Thats right it went from a blank screen and booted up as if nothing happened. Wierd? The thing is that everytime my phone turns off I have to wait a couple of hours for it to re-boot once I power it back on. Sounds like I need to take it to be repaired but just thought I would post to see if any1 else had this issue?

116Hi, my phone froze to a white screen that said NOKIA. I used the three step process and it worked, but I lost all my contacts, info and notes that I saved along with a lot of stuff that came with the phone. I lost all the games and other stuff on the application menu. There was no way for me to save all my cotacts and info being that the phone was frozen. Is there a way i could get all those factory installed applications back to the phone? I lost so much icons that my phone seems so bare. Don’t get me wrong, im happy that my phone works again. It would just be nice if it was restored to the way it was when I first got it. Thank you so much.

122I just attempted a software upgrade on my N95 8G. Just as it was completing the installation, my phone died. Black screen!!
The nokia message said, remove battery, disconnect usb etc etc. I tried all that and no joy. I have tried the 3 finger reset numerous times, no Joy!!
The phone vibrates briefly as normal when I turn the power on, the keys light up below the screen, but the screen stays black!! God damn upgrade… I won’t be doing that again!!!
Does anyone have any help?? Please!!!
