Smartphone Thoughts has discovered that Microsoft has enabled File Synchronization in Windows Mobile 6.0 Standard Smartphones through Activesync 4.5 on Windows XP only. This means you cannot synchronize Files from your Windows Mobile 6 Smartphone to your computer or vice versa through Windows Mobile Device Center available in Windows Vista but only through Activesync 4.5 which is limited to Windows XP.

This works just like “Files Synchronization” feature already available in Windows Mobile based Pocket PC devices . After you select the option to sync files, a shortcut called Devicename-My Documents is created on your computer’s desktop. Simply drag and drop files into the folder and they will be synchronized to your Smartphone the next time it is connected. Similiarly, on your Smartphone, if you place files under the My Documents folder, they will be synch’d to your desktop computer
Update: Brighthand reports that Microsoft has promised to introduce File Synchronization support for Windows Vista Mobile Device Center by mid-June this year.
