Sony Ericsson provides a free service called TrackID on its Walkman series of mobile devices. TrackID is a free service that allows you to capture and record any music, song or sound clip through the mobile phone’s microphone, compare it to digital signatures on Gracenote, and display the media’s track, artist, and album info so that you can save it or send details to friends. There are other such similiar service providers of music recognition on mobile phones like Verizon’s VCast SondID and Cingular MusicID, both powered by Gracenote.

The Nokia Dude blog make this a reality on Nokia S60 3rd Edition based NSeries and ESeries mobile devices. You can simply download an HTML file which allows you to submit captured/recorded songs or music/sound clips to an online TrackID service and get the track, artist name and album information on your mobile phone.
