The good folks at XDA Developer forum have managed to extract the HTC Streaming Media Player for Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0 based Pocket PC and Smartphone devices. Windows Mobile does not provide in-built support for RTSP streaming protocol. HTC’s Streaming Media Player is a free application pre-installed on the latest Windows Mobile 6 HTC devices that allows you to watch streaming RSTP/3GP audio/video media such as from YouTube mobile by launching it from a mobile browser.
Download HTC Streaming Media Player here.
The CAB file also contains registry keys for 3GP MIME type so that when you click a streaming video link in your mobile browser, the HTC streaming media player is launched.
If you get an some error about components not found or missing, you might require this DLL file pack that contains the following system files required by the player:
AYGSHELL.dll
COREDLL.dll
ImageDLL.dll
ole32.dll
OLEAUT32.dll
VerInfou.dll
WININET.dll
WS2.dll
These files need to be placed under the \Windows directory of your mobile device. If you get a warning about replacing existing files, DO NOT proceed.

2Just to clarify..don’t overwrite any existing files but you can still add the ones missing and the program runs fine…added to a tmobile MDA running WM5.

3Yes agree with Rudi Pittman.
Thanks for the feedback Mr. Pittman. It works on both WM5 and WM6.
Did exactly the way you said and works like charm.
Thanks

4On an Eten M700 (rom 354), it’s not wotking.
I Followed the steps, after all I just added 3 .dll.
I was able to open the streamiing media, yes.
It oppened automatically when I tried to view a video in m.youtube.com
It started connecting then it buffered quite quickly 10%, 25%, 39%, 60%,
78%, 94%, 94%, 94%, 94%, … 94%, … closed.
When it gets to ninety-ish it stops for some seconds then the straeaming media closes.
Any one with the same problem?

10I cant get it to work either on my Cingular 8525.
It buffers to 99% and closes the streaming media player that was installed with the .cab.
WTF!
I am starting to get pissed….wasting my time with this.
If anyone figures it out please let us know!
Thanks!

16It worked on my HP iPAQ 6925 - had to install the cab then replace the files in the \Windows dir, but many files already existed, so I did not overwrite. Still, a Mr Pregnant YT video worked, alot of stop and go buffering over Edge, but it worked. I’ll try over WiFi and expect better performance….

21I just installed this on my Cingular 8125 / Wizard with WM5. Works great! I can now play videos on m.youtube.com just by clicking on the link in IE.
I did have to install some of those DLL files, but did not overwrite any of the files that already existed.

David
August 25th, 2007 at 3:55 am
23I get the same problem as comments #4 - #10 above. Once I click the video in m.youtube.com, the HTC player opens and it starts buffering. Once it gets to 99% the player crashes with this message:
We’re Sorry… A problem has occurred with StreamingPlayer.exe.
And then the option to send a report to Microsoft.

24I had a completely different set of issues when installing on T-Mobile MDA WM5. I ended up manually removing installed files via file explorer on device, then I went here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288857
Then I came back to this page’s links to install dll’s and reinstall streamer by putting the cab in My windows based mobile device>program files>. After following instructions on link above, then coming back to this page and following above steps (and soft reset), It’s working now.

25This works great. The only troubles I have are because of T-Mobile’s lackluster data service. It ends up rebuffering often but I’m used to that. :)
Thanks for the tip, Abdul.

44ok I figured out the problem with the cingular 8525 with either the wm5 or 6 operating system the program is already on the phone so you don’t need it all you need is to go to xda developers and get a cab file for dopod 838pro_streaming_v210
install the file and the streaming video works
I had it on wm5 and it worked fine just upgraded to wm6 and it works fine on it too

46Yep, the link for the DLL’s pack is dead. However, I found them here:

There’s a download called Tools.zip at the end of the first post - you’ll have to register to download.
I got the htc streaming app working on my Dell Axim x51v, and it plays nice with the new mobile youtube site m.youtube.com. Thanks AA.

‘The quickkey you provided for file download was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on Mediafire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or Mediafire.’

52I have a Telus HTC Touch using EVDO. The software is installed and now when I click on a YouTube video in IE the HTC Media Player launches,=. I see “connecting…” in the tiop left corner then a few seconds later “failed to find network” is displayed in the middle of the player and it closes and I am returned to IE.

62If you cant get it to work with Windows download Minimo (Mini mozilla). Next download the HTC Streaming Video Winzip file and copy it to your HD on your phone. run both setups and restart. on the first time you try to look at a streaming video you will be asked if you want to use and outside program and check “do this everytime” and click launch now. this worked on my HTC 6800 with WM 6 alltel service.

65Well this has been a fun experience. For those of you seeing that your installation was unsuccessful, I believe it is because you’ve downloaded an incomplete file. The cab file should be about 2.3 MB.. the first one I came across was about 400KB. Try this link.. http://www.ramonshare.com/files/index.php?share=4&path=TOOLS%2FRvBCrS_HTC_Streaming_Media.cab
As for the DLL files.. turns out I didn’t need it but here’s a link I found to those files..

70I just upgraded my HTC Sprint Mogul to ROM 3.35.651.2. After upgrade, I could not play streaming video from Youtube. Windows Media Player tried to play, but returned a message “Unknown Error”.
After installing the above HTC Streaming Media CAB, it works perfect. There was no need to install additional DLL’s.

73As with the other numerous Touch WMP users trying to access mobile youtube, I also continue to get “Failed to Find Network”, “Error” or blank screen. This occurs with IE and Opera. Have installed/uninstalled both on device and on card. Have noted that the biggest difference between on device and on card is that the device install times out faster and kicks me back to the m.youtube.com site, whereas the card install gives me the above error msgs after a couple of minutes.
Any answer summary postings or suggestions of non-WMP apps? Thanks.

83HTC touch users, if you get “failed to connect” error, disconnect your touch from PC, thus EVDO will re-connect. Then you can watch youtube. I hit the problem and found this solution.
