Private browsing in Firefox 2, Opera 9, IE 7 & Safari 3 browsers: Surf websites anonymously without leaving behind any trace of history, cache, cookies, autocomplete & forms

In this world of data and identity theft, it is important that your browsing/surfing activity on a public computer is not left behind. I have listed below one option each for the most commonly available web browsers that prevent and/or clean up private data after each browing session.

1) Firefox 2

Stealther is a free addon for Mozilla Firefox that allows you to browse websites without leaving any trace on the computer. It does this by temporarily disabling the following features in the browser:

- Browsing History (also in Address bar)
- Cookies
- Downloaded Files History
- Disk Cache
- Saved Form Information
- Sending of Referrer Header
- Recently Closed Tabs list

Download Stealther here.

2) Internet Explorer 7

Browzar is a free addon that runs over Internet Explorer engine and prevents history, cache, auto-complete and cookies from being saved to the disk.

3) Apple Safari 3.x

Apple’s Safari for Windows features in-built support for private browing which can be enabled from under Safari–>Private Browsing

Download Apple Safari here

4) Opera 9

Unfortunately, for Opera 9, there is no add-on/extension or feature available that would prevent private information from being written to the disk. You can either choose to delete the entire private data or set block cookies, graphics & content on a per-site basis.
