WMExperts Forum member, codyppc, has written a nice tutorial on how to download and install the Threaded SMS Messaging Chat application provided by Palm on a Windows Mobile 6 Pocket PC device.

Instructions (modified):
1) Download and Install the Threaded SMS application on your Windows Mobile device. [link for pre-AKU 2.3 WM 5 devices; link for AKU 3 or later WM 6 mobile devices)
2) Delete any unread SMS message from the Inbox
3) From your desktop computer, after the device is cradled, navigate to the \Windows\Startup folder from the Windows Explorer. Cut and paste poutlook to your desktop, ensuring that the file does not remain on the mobile device. Disconnect and soft reset the device.
4) On the device, open File Explorer and go to Program Files—>Palm Messaging. Select all files and copy them to the \Windows folder. A warning will prompt you to overwrite & replace 13 files in your ROM. You will need to select Yes for all them.
5) Soft reset the Pocket PC again. You will now see an Inbox application in your Programs menu.
Caution: This tutorial requires you to replace system files in the ROM. If something goes wrong, you may need to hard reset the device. Also worth noting is the fact that you cannot enable the MMS feature in this application no matter what you do.

8installed smoothly on my SGH-i780 and works fine. I believe it’s same threaded SMS system that included on standard installation of Palm Treo that use Windows Mobile (forgot the series)
