Fring has added a new auto-detection and auto-roaming feature in the Voip client for Symbian 9.x based Nokia S60 3rd Edition mobile devices. Fring now recognizes and automatically switches from a 3G/GPRS data connection mode to the WiFi-WLAN mode, when a wireless network is detected, thus using the least expensive connection method. Once out of the WiFi coverage network, Fring will automatically start using the 3G/GPRS internet data connection. All this happens seamlessly in the background without the user ever having to intervene manually.

After upgrading to Fring v3.23, choose your preferred network in the Voip client (Wi-Fi first, 3G first, Wi-Fi only, 3G only, or “Always ask”) by going to Options –> Settings –> Connection Manager –> Settings. As per the blog post, auto-roaming support for Windows Mobile devices is also in the works.
