Yoomba Beta is a free web service service that allows users to make web-based Voip calls or send instant-messages to anyone with any email address(s). Unlike existing Voip or Email providers such as Skype, Gizmo, Hotmail, Yahoo or AIM that require you to talk or chat with others within the same network, Yoomba aims to be an open network service.

Yoomba works with any desktop or webmail based email client such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Live Hotmail, Yahoo!, etc. When it spots an email address on your screen, it will add two icons - one for making voice phone calls (Voip) and the other one for instant messaging. When you click one of these two buttons, you are instantly connected to the contact using voice or chat if he or she is using Yoomba. Else, an invitation request is sent to the contact requesting to download the Yoomba application for Windows.

You can also choose to send an invitation email to your closest friends (defined as fifty contacts on a user’s list that are communicated with most often) asking them to download Yoomba.
