VTT Research center has released a free motion-detection based mouse application (HID) for Nokia S60 2nd Edition mobile devices called PhoneMouse that allows you to emulate and control your Windows PC’s mouse cursor and scroll wheel by moving the mobile phone in air using the device’s inbuilt camera via Bluetooth.

Here are some of the key features of PhoneMouse:

PhoneMouse

+ Emulates bluetooth mouse pulsations
+ Supports all three buttons of a regular mouse
+ Drawing mode to draw curves and straight lines
+ Laser pointer
+ Emulate the ESC button of the keyboard
+ Increase and decrease mouse sensitivity by pressing ‘*’ (slower) or ‘#’ (faster).

The program consists of a server and client application which need to be installed on the Windows PC and Nokia s60 mobile device respectively. The Bluetooth on your computer should support Serial Port Protocol (SPP) profile. Before launching the server application on the desktop, make sure to add a serial server COM port in your bluetooth configuration. Then, select the COM port you added in the PhoneMouse server application and start using the client from your mobile device.
