Google has released a new version of GMail Mobile v1.5 for Java J2ME enabled mobile devices excluding Blackberry for US English only. You can now encrypt mail traffic with SSL, view full contact details and save emails in draft for later editing.

New features in this release include:
+ Attach “Sent from Gmail for mobile” signature to outgoing messages: This feature appends a tag to every outgoing email from the application. Though it sounds like an advert, it is useful to let the recipient know that the message was sent from a mobile device, if it is too short or brief or contains shortforms/abbreviations. This can be disabled from the settings menu.
+ View the full details of your Gmail contacts: If you click on a contact, you will the same details as available in desktop version of GMail i.e. a photo, email address(s), phone number(s) and other notes. You can even click to call the contact from the GMail application.
+ Save a message you’re composing to “Finish Later”: You can save an unfinished message in Drafts for composing later
+ View bandwidth statistics
+ Use SSL for securely encrypting traffic
