Google has released a basic version of Google Docs and Spreadsheets Mobile that enables you to open and view Word Documents and Excel Spreadsheets from your mobile phone browser in HTML format. Powerpoint presentations cannot be currently viewed. And I am not sure if this is new, but clicking on any DOC, XLS, PPT or PDF attachment in the mobile browser version of GMail Mobile displays the contents of the file in HTML/plain text format.

Key features of Google Docs and Spreadsheets Mobile include:

Google Docs and Spreadsheets Mobile

+ Search box to find documents by keywords
+ Recent Documents are displayed
+ Following folders are displayed : All Documents, In Folders, Not In Folders, Created by me, Starred and Trash
+ While opening a spreadsheet, you can view it as HTML or download it as an XLS (Excel) if you have an Excel viewer on your mobile device
+ By default a single column is displayed. You have to click through to the next column or jump straight to a specific cell by entering the coumn and row number (if you know its coordinates). You can also list the contents of a single row, which is then displayed vertically instead of horizontally.
