Active Notes is a new Notes application that comes preinstalled on the Nokia E90 communicator. While traditional notes are only plain text, Active Notes can embed images, sounds, videos, business cards/contacts, website bookmarks and files/documents, thus creating multimedia notes. Moreover these notes are interactive. For example, a URL in the note is automatically recognised and can be launched in your mobile browser or a phone number can be added to your contact list. The ‘Link note to call’ function launches the note automatically when the contact to which it is assigned calls you.

Active Notes cannot be synched via PC Suite but can be copied manually to any computer or mobile device. They can be found under /Data/Activenotes and consist of an HTML file and a corresponding folder (with “_files” appended to it) containing the media. You can copy both the file and folder to any other device and start editing it. This is a very handy tool for research purposes on your mobile device.
