Nokia Research Center has announced Point & Find, an exciting artificial intelligence based service to discover more about your surroundings, using the in-built camera & GPS receiver on your S60 mobile device.

With ‘Point&Find’, after you capture the photo of an object with the camera phone, the software recognises images and uses a combination of these and GPS (global positioning satellite data) to process it. The mobile device then displays relevant information about what you are looking at, fetching real-time information from the Internet. For example, you can point the camera phone at a famous landmark and get the historical and architectural details or tourist information about it immediately.

The service uses specially designed systems architecture, Artificial Intelligence elements, positioning technology and image processing to distinguish indoors and outdoors objects, even when they are very small or are moved from an original location.
