Barely a day after Apple released the latest version of Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard, hackers have managed to create a patched DVD that allows users to install Leopard on a Intel x86 based Windows PC without having to buy a new Apple Mac hardware. Apple claims to have 300 new features in this OSX release while Microsoft claims a 100 for Vista. If you are interested in comparing out of the box features of Windows Vista v/s Mac OSX Leopard, check out this Engadget article for a rundown.
For this hack tutorial, pre-requisites include:
+ Intel hardware with atleast SSE3
+ The Patched 9a581 GM DVD Image
+ The zip file containing all the files needed for this tutorial
+ Blank DVD-RW or spare partition
+ One pen drive or USB Flash Drive formatted as FAT32 and labelled strictly as “Patcher”
Intructions to create the patched DVD and the ZIP file containing the necessary files can be found at the osx86scene forum. Alternatively, you can download the ready made DVD image torrent at Demonoid.
After downloading the appropriate files, you can follow the guide at Dailyapps to install Leopard on your PC in three steps- extractng the files to the USB drive, installing Leopard and patching it.
Things to remember:
+ Make Sure you install Leopard on MBR and not GUID or it won’t boot
+ Format your Leopard Partition to HFS+
+ Some hardware features like networking, bluetooth, or sound may not work
