Jangl is a free service that lets you make phone calls, send voicemails and SMS text messages to any mobile phone using an email address.
When you add someone as a Jangl contact, you get a free local phone number to call or text them. Also, Jangl gives you a local Jangl phone number for each of the email addresses in your GMail, Yahoo, Hotmail, or AOL address book. Once you have the phone number, you can leave a voicemail for the recipient, and that person gets a number to call you back. If you ever want to talk to that person again, you can use their Jangl number.
With Jangl, your phone number is private. You don’t get to see the “real” phone number of the person you’re calling. The first time you call, you’ll be asked to leave a short message. Once you’ve registered with Jangl and your first Jangl connection has been accepted, you and the recipient can each choose whether you want subsequent calls to go to voicemail or straight to your phone. This also applies in the case of SMS- your real number is never displayed in the “from” area of the text message.
You can access your voicemail through a URL, receive email or sms notifications of voicemails, listen to your vmails at Jangl’s website as well other standard dialing options. Also, you can register multiple Jangl personal numbers if you have more than one telephone number. All you need is a phone with Caller Id.
