Sharpcast has released an invite-only private beta of its much anticipated synchronization suite called SugarSync based on their Universal Sync platform. SugarSync allows you to backup and synchronize your files and media in real-time across multiple computers, mobile devices and the web. As per Sharpcast’s CTO, SugarSync supports “a broad array of consumer data types, including both files (e.g., documents and media), and database-resident objects (e.g., contacts, calendars, and playlists), with the ability to easily add new data types, reports RWW.

SugarSync: Real-time Files Backup & Sync across Mobile Phones, Computers & Web

SugarSync consists of a Windows PC client that needs to be downloaded and installed on your PC. The application then monitors files in the backgroud and keeps a synchronized copy of them on a secure central server. You can install the client on multiple PCs to keep the files synchronized between your home and office PC. Files can then be access from a web browser from sugarsync.com or from a mobile phone browser at m.sugarsync.com. A Mac and Linux version of the client is being finalised.

For mobile sync, special applications are available for synching different media types. In the beta, there is a downloadable gallery application for photos, that allows you to wirelessly synchronize camera phone photos to your home PC. Currently mobile apps are available at m.sugarsync.com for Blackberry and Windows Mobile Smartphones; with J2ME, Symbian and Brew clients under development. Apps for synching and streaming other types of media are also in the works.

While in beta, users will get 11 GB of online storage space for saving synchronized files. There are 1500 beta invites available for RWW readers using the code RWW. To sign up, click here.
