In this review, I am going to list eight free services that can send SMS text message alerts to your mobile phone when the webpage content or RSS feeds of your favorite blog or site are updated. While some services are not customizable, others allow you to restrict the length, duration and content of the SMS alerts that you receive.

1) 4Info: Allows you to enter readymade or custom RSS feeds, select keywords, choose time and number of alerts to receive per day.

2) Pingie: Requires your cellphone number and email address to create an account. There is no way to limit the length or number of SMS alerts.

3) Web-alerts: After entering the URL of the website that you want to get SMS alerts for, Web-Alerts will discover the RSS feed automatically. You then need to just enter your mobile number and keywords that you’d like to filter

4) ZapTXT: With ZapTXT, you can monitor topics from any website or blog. They provide widgets for web and mobile browsers so that you can setup alerts with a single click.

5) Zingku: They provide a feature called Mashup using which people can SMS a shortcode to fetch the latest entry or latest titles from a website/blog feed.

6) TextMarks: This service is aimed for publishers who can signup and setup a shortcode for their own website/blog. When users send the keyword you selected to TextMark, the service will reply with the requested information from your site.

7) Google Alerts: Google’s alert service allows you to enter search terms, the type of site that you want alerts for such as blog, video site, etc, how often you want to get alerts for and your email address.

8) Yahoo! Alerts: Yahoo!’s alert services allows you to setup SMS alerts for a wide range of options such as Mail, RSS, News and Stocks.
