Red Five Labs had released a beta version 2 of Net60 Mobile, a free Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 1.0 emulator for Nokia S60 3rd Edition mobile devices, that provides true cross platform portability for running .NET Compact Framework applications meant for Windows Mobile (mostly 2003) devices on Symbian S60 platform natively. Unfortunately, the relevance of this software is yet to be seen as most of the current WM applications are built on top of .NET Compact Framework 2.0.
There are two applications in the beta- a desktop based tool aimed at developers who can use the .NET Compact Framework environment to build applications for Symbian devices using C# and Visual Basic .NET language in Visual Studio. The Red Five Labs .NET Compact Framework just-in-time compiles the Intermediate Language (IL) code into Symbian OS native code (supporting the ARM architecture based microprocessor) for on device execution.

The second application is meant for end consumers who can install older .NET Framework 1.0 software on a Nokia S60 3rd Edition devices, including N-Series and E-Series.
