Multi-User Publishing Environment (MUPE) is a Java J2ME based application by Nokia Beta Labs that allows users to instantly run and play web-based multiplayer applications, games and services in real-time connected to the internet from the mobile device. All MUPE applications are online services and require an active data connection

The MUPE mobile client can take advantage of a mobile phone’s hardware such as the camera to add more interactivity to the user experience.

Here are some the unique multiplayer applications and services for MUPE:

Gathering : Join a gathering via Bluetooth proximity, chat, do polls, view your archives.

Sandman : In Sandman, players walk in the real world trying to locate other players, and put them to sleep with the sleeping sand. Fast paced, multiplayer real world game.

CamQ : Create and solve picture based quizzes to compete with other players. You can choose to just to create picture quizzes for others to solve or just keep to solving their quizzes. To create a quiz you need to take a picture and describe it using three words.

CamQuiz : Session based multiplayer game, which utilizes camera.
Detector : One player creates a game and act as a judge. Other players goal is to photograph the targets defined by the judge and be the fastest one to complete the list.

Insectopia : Insectopia is a game which combines real world into the gameplay. Players roam the cityscape searching for and catching a multitude of different insects. Each insects in the game world is generated by using the available bluetooth devices available in the player’s vincinity.

Product Control : Product Control is a multiplayer game where players can take control of any product that has an ordinary barcode on it. Players collect monsters that are found in barcodes no one has scanned before. The monsters are used to fight over the control of the most popular barcodes.
