Google is testing a new kind of local search for mobile devices that lets you find businesses in your vicinity and get directions ot it without typing anything on the mobile keypad, based on pre-defined categories.

When you first visit the website from your mobile, you are asked to enter the zip code of your current physical location. Then the following categories are presented for searching:

Food / Restaurants
Travel
Transportation
Retail
Entertainment
Sports
Googleplex

Each category is further divided into smaller relevant categories. For example, under Travel, you will find categories for Hotel, Gas Station and ATM. Similiarly, under Transportation, you will find Airport, Train Station and Car Rental.

You can sign into Google Account and save multiple zip code locations. When you click on a listing, complete details about the business are offered such details such as Street Address, Telephone number, Timings, Payment type and business description.

You can also zoom in or out of a Google Map that is displayed on your screen as well as get driving directions. When you click on the driving directions option, the start and end addresses are pre-populated with your current zip code and the business’ street address respectively, saving you from typing anything on the keyboard.
