Jott for Blackberry is a freeware application in beta that allows you to send and reply to emails on your RIM OS based Blackberry using voice - either by speaking directly into the microphone of the PDA, or while wearing a Bluetooth headset, hands-free. It seamlessly integrates into the email application of your smartphone and shows up when you click on the menu options when replying to emails.

Once installed, open up an email, click on the menu button and you will see two options: “Reply with Jott” and “Reply All with Jott”. Select one of those options and Jott for BlackBerry will start. After you’ve chosen your option, you’ll be sent to the next screen where you will hear voice instructions on what to do. You will probably want to listen to the complete instructions all the way through once to understand how the service works.
To get accustomed to the user interface, latency and accuracy of the email responses that you transcribe with the program, you can choose the “Reply All with Jott” option for the welcome email that you receive from Jott a couple of times. The more clearly you speak, the better the transcription will be.
Jott for BlackBerry works on the series 8800, 8300 (Curve), and 8100 (Pearl) model phones and can be downloaded by going directly to www.jott.com/bb from your mobile browser.

1Using Mobivox’s “Send Message” you can dictate emails or sms without downloading any applications. All you have to do is register as a Mobivox user (which is free) and add contacts to your address book. Mobivox also makes your first five sent messages free…I’ve used the service and it works well. I’ve included the hyperlink to Mobivox’s product page (http://www.mobivox.com/features/#g).
