FreeCaddie is a new application for Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone devices that aims to be a freeware alternative to SkyCaddie. The most important role of a Caddie is to provide critical distance information that allows a Tour Player to focus on more important matters such as shot execution. FreeCaddie utilizes the GPS capabilities of your mobile phone combined with the course file data to tell from your current physical location the distance to the front, center and back of the green.

Several golf courses in the San Diego, CA area are already mapped. For golf courses in your local area, you can FreeCaddie’s online, web based course creator to map one. If you know the golf course well you’ll find it easy to mark the greens and prominent features of each hole. It takes about 10 minutes to create a course file. Course files are stored in the directory \Program Files\FreeCaddie\Courses where you need to manually copy the data files.

The accuracy of the software is dependant on the accuracy of your GPS receiver. The more satellites that are visible the better the accuracy will be. At present some general GPS information such as latitude/longitude, altitude, number of satellites is displayed on the mobile screen.

FreeCaddie works with in-built or external Bluetooth GPS Receivers. It requires Microsoft Compact. Net Framework to be installed on your device. Click here to download FreeCaddie for Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone.
