Location Alarm is a freeware application for MIDP 2.0 compatible Java J2ME mobile devices such as Sony Ericsson and Nokia that lets you set location based alarm and alert you when you reach near a preset location, without requiring GPS to fix your physical position. It does not even require GPRS or data connection to work.
Location Alarm uses your mobile phone carrier’s GSM cellular network information to determine your current physical position. To create a new alarm, you first need to add your current GSM location. You can add a new location by selecting the Add Current Location option from the Location Screen. Once you’ve added few locations, you can configure any number of alarms by selecting Add Alarm from the Alarm Menu for each location.
Key features of Location Alarm include:
+ Add any number of locations
+ Add any number of alarms
+ Accuracy of 100 meters to 5 KM depending on the density of the network towers of your operator.
+ Adding notes to your alarm (future release)
+ Sharing your location with your friends (future release)
This program is useful in various scenarios:
+ If you are travelling long distance, you can configure an alarm for your desitination location (provided it has been added before) and take a nap. The application will run in background and wake you up when you reach you destination.
+ Configure a alarm to go off when you are near your ATM area or any other place where you frequent regularly
+ Configure a alarm to remind you about an important job when you enter your office.
While the application’s homepage mentions compatibility with only Sony Ericsson UIQ devices, you may give this program a try on any Java J2ME mobile device and let us know if it works. Click here to download Location Alarm for J2ME mobile device.
