YaPN (Yet Another Proxy for Nokia S60) is a freeware application for Nokia S60 3rd Edition mobile devices that functions as a HTTP proxy and allows you to spoof the User-Agent and WAP profile of the in-built WebKit mobile browser to any other mobile browser such as Windows Mobile, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Blackberry or iPhone. It also allows you to bypass various operator restrictions such as browsing websites restricted to certain networks or sending MMS over WiFi or Bluetooth internet, rather than utilizing the GPRS internet connection on the mobile phone. Below is a tutorial on how to use YaPN on your Nokia S60 3rd Edition mobile device.
Instructions
————————-
1. Download and install the following applications on your device: Python for S60 (PyS60), Python Script Shell and appswitch103 [all files here]
2. After you have installed all the above mentioned programs, install YaPN on your mobile phone
3. Create a folder on your E: drive (storage card) called “Python’”
4. Edit the yapn.conf file (include in the download file above) and save it with your settings in the Unicode format (using Notepad) under E:\Python
Ensure you have a space after the ‘:’ of each parameter.
The ‘wap-proxy’ is your carrier’s proxy server from your access point (only if you want to use it)
The ‘wap-proxy-port’ is the port number of your carrier’s proxy server.
The ‘mms-proxy’ is your carriers mms proxy server from your access point (only if you want to use it)
The ‘mms-proxy-port’ is the port number of your carrier’s mms proxy server.
The ‘mms-server’ is your carrier’s MMS server if used
The ‘User-Agent’ is the User Agent string you want your browser to be identified with.
The ‘x-wap-profile’ (User Agent Profile) is the xml URL for your device information file. This document contains information on the type and capabilities of your device. This parameter is necessary only if you want web sites to use it.
You can find a list of mobile browser User-Agent ids here while the User-Agent Profile ids can be found here.
5. Create a new Access Point which will use the YaPN proxy. You can make a copy of your current Access Point and call it YaPN. Then, go in to the advanced settings of your new Access Point and set the proxy server to 127.0.0.1 and the proxy port to 1234.
6. Once the Access Point is setup, start YaPN. If everything is setup correctly YaPN will start and you can check your User Agent and Wap Profile settings under Options—>settings.
7. Start the HTTP proxy by going into options in YaPN and choosing ‘Start Proxy’.
