Whrrl Beta is a mobile network that offers location based social recommendations for points-of-interest in your vicinity. If you are in a new neighbourhood, you can perform a search for a local point of interest based on your current physical location and then filter the results based on ratings, users, activity type, price, hours of operation, distance and neighborhood. Better still, if your friends or family have visited the same place before, you can choose to first search this trusted network before looking for other peoples recommendations.

If you go to a location and would like to review it yourself, you can “check in” and write your review (in a wiki format) along with images, give it a rating, and publish it to the Whrrl database for benefit of others. Locations can also be bookmarked for later reference. If you want to be kept up to date with what’s going on around you, you can subscribe to a newsfeed which consists of activities of your friends and family members. There are also options for creating an event, or a meetup, at a particular location, which lets you specify what time you’ll be there, and invite others to join you at a particular location.
