GeoGraffiti is a free vocal bulletin board that allows people to record and publish location-specific voice messages, called “Voice Marks”, as well as retrieve and hear Voice Mark messages left by others, whether on-the-go or in front of a computer.

The GeoGraffiti voice platform allows users to share location-specific advice, opinions, warnings and any other messages that could benefit other consumers. From any mobile phone, GeoGraffiti enables a user to “mark” real-world places by publishing a Voice Mark message.

A Voice Mark is a short voice message captured via phone that shares information about anything specific to a place. The Voice Mark messages are linked to a location using a zip code, or geo-tagged to an exact spot on earth using latitude/longitude coordinates. There is also a Web interface that serves as a geographical view for searching and listening to Voice Marks, and provides more ’social networking’ features like tracking your friends’ Voice Marks with notification and map filter displays.

To use this service, you need to call GeoGraffiti’s phone number at (213) 221-3802 or click on a location in their Google maps ‘mashup’ and get a callback. Then, from the Main Menu, you can use option 1 to create voice notes or option 2 to search. Once you are done recording, you need to press # to wrap up the message.
