Americas Emergency Network has released a free mobile application called AEN Mobile GPS Edition that alerts individuals about natural or manmade emergencies based on their current physical GPS location in real-time. AEN Mobile is actually a Where GPS widget that offers location based content on supported mobile devices including Nokia S60, Blackberry and Java J2ME.

Key features of AEN Mobile GPS Edition include:
• Emergencies Near Me – After the application has loaded, all bulletins within 30 miles of the device are displayed. Each item is marked [C]ritical, [I]mportant or [G]eneral to indicate the level criticality associated with the bulletin (see Page 3).
• Map This Emergency – Clicking a highlighted bulletin displays the emergency on an interactive map. Municipalities can define a specific address or coordinates of the event, as we illustrated with varying bulletin locations around Chicago O’Hare Airport.
• Display Preferences – Users can adjust the sensitivity of the application by narrowing or expanding the radius of matching events, time since posting, and number of bulletins displayed. An “All Emergency Bulletins” option has been added and turned on by default to ensure content is available during judging.
• Local Traffic Bulletins – To assist users in moving away from (or in some cases to) the scene of an emergency, NAVTEQ Real-Time Traffic Services are available from the application. Traffic bulletins within the defined radius of the device are displayed.
• Local Weather Radar – For weather-related emergencies, the application provides access to local radar and satellite images from AEN’s partner, The Weather Channel
Currently AEN Mobile GPS Edition is only available to any user with a Where developer account.
